Railings, Fences, Gates, Lighting and. . .

Like Kryptonite and Superman, moisture brings bare metal to its knees, and in both instances, avoidance is the best plan! Just a small spot of bare metal and moisture is going to interact with it and create rust that will continue to spread until you intervene to stop it. Since intervention means a lot of work like; sanding, painting with primer and then adding a finish coat or two, prevention, in the form of a quality, strong initial finish is the way to go.

Architectural wood molding in a historic house is usually more elaborate than molding in modern homes, where simplicity of line and easily available ‘standard’ designs are favored.  In older homes the standards differ from today’s standards, and in more expensive homes the molding may have been created for that house alone.
